Camp Matyholweni
Camp
Matyholweni is situated in the new southern section
of the Park, close to the beach and the Sundays
River Mouth. This area does not have elephants yet,
but there are plans to re-introduce elephants, buffalo,
eland, red hartebeest and possibly black rhino from
May 2007 onwards once the fencing has been completed.
Animals that are found in this area are: kudu, bushbuck,
bush pig and duiker, South Africa Safaris.
Visitors
have access to the main wildlife viewing area of
the Park via the new access road through Camp Matyholweni,
which links Addo Main Camp with Camp Matyholweni.
Please note that the gate linking these two sections
of the Park closes at 5.30pm and there is no access
after this time. The distance from Camp Matyholweni
to Addo Main Camp through the Park is 39km. Busses
and caravans may not use the new access road and
will have to drive directly to Addo Main Camp via
public roads.
Matyholweni,
which means “in the bush” in Xhosa is
located near the coastal town of Colchester at the
Sundays River Mouth, 3km off the N2 highway, Matyholweni
South Africa Safaris is easily
accessible and provides a second gateway into the
Park. Amenities such as shops, restaurants and a
fuel station are available in the nearby town.
Visitors
have access to the main wildlife viewing area of
the Park via the southern access road which links
to Addo Elephants Main Camp. Please note that the
gate linking these two sections of the Park closes
at 5.30pm and there is no access after this time.
The distance from Camp Matyholweni to Addo Main
Camp through the Park is 39km. The southern access
road is not accessible to buses and caravans. Bookings
are made through Central Reservations.
