George
The
capital city and geographical hub of the world renowned Garden
Route South Africa. Situated in a picturesque environment
on a coastal plateau between the Outeniqua Mountain Range and
the Indian Ocean, causing the town and surrounding area to have
a temperate climate throughout the year.
For
instance, there is the Drostdy, a graceful old building that houses
a museum, the George Museum itself, the Old Slave Tree of The
Garden Route, a 186 year old oak tree that has
an iron chain embedded in its trunk, the St Peter and St Paul
Church, the oldest existing Roman Catholic church in South
Africa, the St Mark's Cathedral - one of the smallest
cathedrals in South Africa.
And
do not forget the beaches at the secluded Victoria Bay - which
is renowned for surfing, especially during winter months - and
Herold's Bay, a small, sheltered holiday resort with large tidal
pools, safe bathing and good angling opportunities. You can also
find multiple lodges in the area where Big 5 Safaris
can be conducted, which can be included in our Garden
Route Tours.
As
for sport; George has 2 of the top 10 golf courses in South
Africa and also offers flying, gliding, horse riding,
squash, tennis and a variety of hiking trails and mountain biking
tours.
