Wilderness
As
far back as the late 1800s the reputation of Wilderness along
the East Coast and Garden Route of South
Africa, with it's natural bounty of rivers and lakes
and intrinsic peace and tranquillity, ideal for seaside holidays,
was laid in a little stone farmhouse.
Today
the romantic seaside resort of Wilderness lies along the coast
of South Africa, 15 km east of George between
the Kaaimans River in the west and the Goukamma Nature Reserve
in the east of The Garden Route, bordered by
the Outeniqua Mountains in the north and the Indian Ocean in the
South of Africa.
Wilderness
offers the the visitor 18 km of South Cape coastline
surrounded by a national lake area with five lakes and two estuaries.
The
Wilderness National Park is a charming world of lakes, rivers,
fens, estuaries and beaches which gently unfolds against a backdrop
of lush forest and lofty mountains. This is a stop which is included
in most of our Garden Route Tours.
The
charm of Wilderness is its other-worldliness; its sense of being
cut off by its boundaries of sea and forest from the hectic workday
world.
It
is an ideal base to explore the Garden Route
and Big 5 Safaris being close George, Sedgefield,
Goukamma Nature Reserve, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and the Tsitsikamma
National Park.
